More stores. Same JOE energy.

Fresh juice. Coffee on the go. A bar full of energy. Behind the JOE experience is a busy digital operation, connecting the team to the orders coming in. A standard UniFi network is bringing consistent infrastructure and clearer visibility to the technology behind the bar.

Behind every order

A JOE store is a connected workplace. iPads run point of sale and store applications, while The List brings together orders from the counter, the JOE app, delivery partners, self-service kiosks and drive-throughs. Payment terminals, printers and digital menus all help keep service moving.

The List needs to stay online to receive orders across these channels. JOE strengthened its store infrastructure with failover connectivity and a consistent network design that separates systems into dedicated VLANs, prioritises traffic and applies clear security policies to each segment.

The previous estate had inconsistent infrastructure and limited visibility into store equipment. JOE wanted a repeatable standard that would make connected devices visible and give support teams a consistent environment to work with.

A fresh recipe for store networking

The new blueprint combines UniFi gateways, PoE switching and WiFi 7 with renewed structured cabling and a locked equipment rack.

Cellular Backup (U-LTE-Backup-Pro & U5G) provides an alternative internet connection. CAT6A cabling and a locked 12U rack create an organised physical installation.

Four Network segments

  • Back office
  • Payment systems
  • Store equipment
  • Guest Wi-Fi

A standard port map gives installers and support teams a common reference. Access point placement adapts to each store's layout, including back-office areas and additional floors where required.

Physical Security Expansion

  • G5 Dome Cameras
  • Network Video Recorder

Ready for the next shift

JOE's retail IT team owns the project and the standard. Partners prepare and configure the equipment, with regional teams delivering the installation on site.

The rollout model calls for a single overnight shift, with testing before the team leaves. Cabling renewal is part of the upgrade, and the same standard is intended for new openings and refits.

The programme also improves visibility: uptime reporting device by device, helping support teams understand conditions inside the store network.

The Results

~70% In-store service availability before migration 99.83% In-store service availability July with UniFi

  • 64 completed store upgrades
  • 71 sites on UniFi, including new openings
  • 100% uptime at 92% of sites
  • 99% uptime at 95% of sites

More JOE. One store standard.

With 500+ stores across 20+ markets and a public ambition to reach 1,000 stores, JOE needs a foundation for growth. Planned rollout phases span the Nordics, continental Europe and the US. A shared design gives those teams a common starting point.
